When my instructor’s voice echoed, “Lauren, Fall, Fall, Fall!”, I had to consciously override every instinct for self-preservation and simply… let go. The sensation of intentionally falling is surreal; my feet instinctively sought the wall again before I could fully process the descent or the initial pang of fear. Yet, it offered a profound, real-world lesson: the apprehension, anxiety, and dread leading up to a challenge are often far more intense than the actual experience itself. Embracing the fall, rather than resisting it, taught me about resilience and the importance of a ‘soft landing’ – both literally and figuratively.
