Life has been wonderfully bustling recently, especially with M’s brother visiting from Germany for a few weeks! It’s been an absolute joy to have him here, sharing all the cherished spots and experiences our DMV area has to offer. From exploring vibrant neighborhoods to discovering hidden gems, every moment has been an adventure.

Yet, amidst all the outings, the most precious times are those spent simply being together at home. There’s something truly special about the casual comfort of shared laughter on the couch, playful teasing in the kitchen as we prepare meals, and heartfelt conversations gathered around the kitchen table. These are the moments that truly bind us and create lasting memories.

Having an extra person means I’m currently cooking for not just one, but two hungry boys! This has prompted me to dive into my repertoire of hearty, comforting, and generously portioned meal prep recipes. Think warming casseroles, efficient sheet pan dinners, and simmering stews – dishes designed to feed everyone sumptuously for multiple days. It’s all about creating delicious, wholesome food that satisfies and nourishes.

Last week, this Apple Cherry Tahini Crumble was an absolute hit with everyone. It quickly became a family favorite, praised for its unique flavor profile and comforting texture. What Makes This Apple Cherry Tahini Crumble a Must-Try?

This isn’t just any fruit crumble; it’s a meticulously crafted recipe designed to deliver maximum flavor with wholesome ingredients. Here’s why this Apple Cherry Tahini Crumble deserves a spot in your recipe rotation:

  • Naturally Sweetened: We skip refined sugars entirely, relying on the inherent sweetness of fresh apples and cherries, beautifully enhanced by Eden Foods Apple Cherry Butter and a touch of maple syrup. This results in a dessert that’s genuinely good for you.
  • Vegan & Gluten-Free: Made with plant-based ingredients and gluten-free rolled oats and almond flour, this crumble caters to various dietary needs without compromising on taste or texture.
  • Unique Tahini Twist: The unexpected addition of tahini to the crumble topping adds a sophisticated nutty depth and a hint of savory bitterness that perfectly complements the sweet and tart fruit filling. It also acts as a natural binder, replacing traditional butter.
  • Wholesome & Nutrient-Rich: Packed with fiber from oats and fruit, healthy fats from tahini and almonds, and vitamins from fresh produce, this crumble is a powerhouse of nutrition.
  • Versatile for Any Time of Day: While decadent enough for dessert, its wholesome ingredients make it an excellent choice for a hearty breakfast or a nourishing snack.
  • Easy & Quick to Prepare: With straightforward steps and minimal prep time, you can have this delicious crumble baking in the oven in under an hour.

Crafting the Irresistible Apple Cherry Filling

The foundation of any great crumble is its fruit filling, and this one is bursting with vibrant flavors. Here’s everything you’ll need to create this lusciously saucy and perfectly balanced apple cherry base:

  • Apples: Choose a variety that holds its shape well when baked, such as Honeycrisp, Granny Smith (for extra tartness), Fuji, or Gala. Approximately 3-4 medium to large apples will provide a generous base for your crumble.
  • Cherries: Fresh or frozen work equally well here. If using fresh, make sure they are pitted. Sweet dark cherries or tart Montmorency cherries will both be delicious, offering slightly different flavor profiles. About 2 cups will create a beautiful medley with the apples.
  • Lemon Juice: A tablespoon of fresh lemon juice brightens the fruit flavors and prevents the apples from browning, adding a crucial tart note that elevates the entire dish.
  • Maple Syrup: Pure maple syrup is our natural sweetener of choice, contributing a deep, rich flavor without the need for refined sugar. Adjust to your sweetness preference.
  • Eden Foods Organic Apple Cherry Butter Spread: This ingredient is the secret to an incredibly flavorful and naturally sweetened filling. It binds the fruits beautifully and adds a profound fruit essence.

That’s truly all you need for a spectacular fruit filling!

Making the Apple Cherry Filling: Simple Steps to Success

Creating the fruit filling for your crumble is incredibly straightforward. First, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with coconut oil or your preferred non-stick spray. A similar-sized baking dish will work just fine; aim for one that allows the fruit to spread in a relatively even layer.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, pitted cherries, fresh lemon juice, pure maple syrup, and the luscious Eden Foods Organic Apple Cherry Butter Spread. When preparing your apples, you have the option to peel them for a smoother texture or leave the skins on for added fiber and a rustic feel – both methods yield delicious results.

Gently toss all the ingredients together until the fruit is thoroughly coated, glistening, and sticky. This ensures every bite of the crumble will be infused with the rich, sweet, and tart flavors of the fruit and apple butter. Set this delightful fruit mixture aside while you prepare the crumble topping.

The addition of Eden Foods Organic Apple Cherry Butter Spread is a game-changer for this recipe. It transforms the apple cherry filling into a super saucy, wonderfully sweet, and perfectly tart concoction. This isn’t just a fruit spread; it’s a flavor enhancer that brings a depth and complexity that would be hard to achieve otherwise.

This delicious fruit butter is crafted from the finest organic Montmorency Tart Cherries and organic Michigan apples, a blend that guarantees exceptional quality and taste. Montmorency cherries are renowned for their distinct tartness, which provides a fantastic counterpoint to the sweetness of the apples, creating a harmonious flavor profile.

I am a huge admirer of all of Eden Foods’ Fruit Spreads because of their commitment to purity and natural sweetness. They are made with no added sugar, relying solely on the natural goodness of real fruit and concentrated fruit juice for their delightful flavor. This makes them a healthier alternative to many store-bought jams and jellies.

Beyond this crumble, their fruit spreads are incredibly versatile. Try spreading them on morning toast, swirling them into your oatmeal, drizzling over pancakes, or incorporating them into other baked goods. The tangy, sweet, and intriguing flavor profile of this particular apple cherry butter was, in fact, the very inspiration for this crumble recipe!

What You Need to Make the Golden Tahini Crumble Topping

The crumble topping is where this recipe truly takes an adventurous turn, incorporating tahini for a unique flavor and texture. Here’s a simple list of ingredients for this wholesome and delicious topping:

  • Gluten-Free Old Fashioned Rolled Oats: These provide a satisfying chewiness and structure to the crumble. Ensure they are certified gluten-free if you have sensitivities.
  • Almond Flour: Adds a delicate, nutty flavor and a finer texture to the crumble, complementing the oats and providing healthy fats.
  • Eden Foods Tahini Organic Roasted Sesame Tahini: The star ingredient of our topping! It acts as a rich binder and imparts a wonderful depth of flavor.
  • Maple Syrup: Just a touch of pure maple syrup to enhance the sweetness of the topping and help it bind together without using refined sugars.

With these few, simple ingredients, you’re ready to create a topping that perfectly balances the sweetness of the fruit.

If you’re familiar with my recipes, you’re probably not surprised to find tahini making an appearance here. It’s truly one of my favorite versatile ingredients, and I love incorporating it into both savory and sweet dishes!

In this crumble, Eden Foods Organic Roasted Sesame Tahini plays a crucial role. It acts as a natural binder for the topping, creating a wonderfully cohesive crumble without the need for any added oils or butter. This makes the recipe even healthier and keeps it entirely vegan.

Eden Foods Tahini is made from organic tan sesame seeds that are carefully hulled, dry roasted, and then finely ground into a smooth, creamy butter. This process ensures a rich, authentic sesame flavor that is both nutty and has a delightful, subtle bitterness.

Beyond baking, this tahini is fantastic for creating creamy dressings, rich sauces, or simply drizzling over roasted vegetables. It’s naturally vegan and gluten-free, making it a wonderful pantry staple. However, its unique flavor profile truly shines in baked goods like this crumble. The slight bitterness of the sesame seed butter perfectly offsets and balances the juicy sweetness of the apples and cherries, creating a more sophisticated and complex taste experience that will leave you wanting more.

How to Make the Perfect Tahini Crumble Topping

Creating the tahini crumble topping is just as easy as making the fruit filling. In a separate medium-sized bowl, combine the gluten-free rolled oats, almond flour, pure maple syrup, and the luscious Eden Foods Tahini.

Using a spoon or your fingertips, mix all the ingredients together thoroughly. You want to ensure the oats and almond flour are well-coated with the tahini and maple syrup. The mixture should come together to form distinct, piece-y, and crumbly clusters. This is key to achieving that classic crumble texture – rustic, irregular, and absolutely delicious! Continue mixing until no dry pockets of flour or oats remain, and you have a beautifully textured topping ready to go.

Assembling and Baking Your Golden Crumble

Now for the satisfying part: bringing all the delicious components together to create your masterpiece! First, take your prepared baking dish and evenly spread the apple cherry filling across the bottom. Ensure it’s in a single, consistent layer so it bakes evenly and every bite gets a good amount of fruit.

Next, take your tahini crumble mixture and gently scatter it over the fruit filling. Aim for small, irregular chunks to create that signature crumbly texture. Don’t press it down; simply allow the crumbs to rest lightly on top of the fruit. This airy application will ensure a perfectly crisp, golden-brown topping.

Carefully transfer the baking dish to your preheated oven and bake for 35 to 45 minutes. The crumble is ready when the topping is beautifully golden brown and the fruit filling is bubbling merrily around the edges. This indicates that the fruit is tender and the flavors have melded perfectly.

Once baked, remove the crumble from the oven and let it cool slightly. Serve it warm to fully appreciate the gooey fruit and crisp topping. A little extra drizzle of tahini over each serving and a garnish of your favorite fresh fruit (more cherries or apple slices work wonderfully) can elevate the presentation and flavor even further.

Should you have any delightful leftovers, simply cover the baking dish tightly and store it in the refrigerator for up to one week. Reheat individual portions gently in the microwave or oven before serving to restore their warm, comforting appeal. While I adore my crumble warm and pie-like, it’s also surprisingly delicious enjoyed chilled straight from the fridge!

Enjoy every wholesome, flavorful bite!

Serving Suggestions & Delicious Variations for Your Crumble

This Apple Cherry Tahini Crumble is incredibly versatile and can be enjoyed in so many ways. It makes for a truly delicious summer breakfast, a satisfying snack, or a wholesome dessert. It’s also a fantastic recipe to make when you have an abundance of fresh cherries and apples that you want to use up!

What I particularly love about this recipe is that it delivers all the comforting, delicious flavors of a fruit pie but with significantly less prep time. You can whip this up in under an hour, making it perfect for busy weeknights or impromptu gatherings. The most challenging part, I’ve found, is pitting and slicing all those cherries – perhaps it’s time to invest in a cherry pitter to make things even easier, right?

Serving Ideas:

  • Breakfast Boost: Serve warm with a dollop of vegan yogurt or a sprinkle of extra oats for a hearty start to your day.
  • Dessert Decadence: Top with a scoop of dairy-free vanilla ice cream or a generous swirl of homemade coconut whipped cream for an ultimate treat.
  • Simple Snack: Enjoy a small bowl on its own, warm or chilled, for a satisfying and healthy pick-me-up.
  • Added Flair: A drizzle of extra tahini, a sprinkle of toasted slivered almonds, or a pinch of cinnamon can enhance the flavors even further.

Flavorful Variations:

  • Fruit Substitutions: While apples and cherries are a classic combination, feel free to experiment! You can use all cherries, all apples, or substitute other seasonal fruits like peaches, pears, blueberries, or even a mixed berry blend. Adjust sweetness slightly depending on the tartness of your chosen fruit.
  • Spice It Up: Add a teaspoon of ground cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg, or a dash of cardamom to the fruit filling for an extra layer of warmth and aroma.
  • Nutty Additions: Incorporate chopped walnuts or pecans into the crumble topping for additional crunch and flavor.

However you choose to enjoy it, this crumble is sure to be a delightful addition to your table. Enjoy!
