Discover the Magic of Black Sesame Butter: Your New Favorite Ingredient

My adoration for tahini is well-documented, so when Eden Foods announced the launch of their new Black Sesame Butter alongside an updated Tahini, I was beyond thrilled! Just picture that gorgeous, glossy drizzle – it’s a feast for the eyes before it even touches your palate.

This exquisite, creamy butter is as dark as night, thanks to the use of unhulled roasted black sesame seeds. Beyond its striking appearance, it’s a nutritional powerhouse. Black sesame butter is packed with essential amino acids, beneficial healthy fats, and boasts an impressive calcium content. It’s also rich in magnesium, iron, and antioxidants, making it a fantastic addition to a health-conscious diet. Its flavor is deeply nutty, with an earthy undertone and a subtle bitterness that adds incredible depth.

You can seamlessly incorporate black sesame butter into virtually any dish where you might typically use regular tahini. Spread it on toast for a unique breakfast, whisk it into savory sauces for an umami boost, or, as we’re doing here, elevate your baking to new heights. In this particular brownie recipe, black sesame butter works wonders, lending an unparalleled moistness and fudginess without the need for any additional oils. It truly is a versatile and enriching ingredient that brings both flavor and nourishment to your kitchen.

The Irresistible Fusion: Why Black Sesame and Chocolate Are a Match Made in Heaven

When I polled you all on Instagram about what kinds of recipes you wanted to see more of for March, the answer was overwhelmingly SWEET! And for that, I am eternally grateful. While my personal taste buds often lean towards savory delights, there’s an undeniable magic and therapeutic quality to the act of baking for me.

They often say cooking is an art, and baking is a science, don’t they? And sometimes, embracing a little science can be wonderfully rewarding. I find immense satisfaction in following precise steps, knowing that a sweet, delectable outcome awaits. The entire process, from mixing the batter to the moment that rich, aromatic scent of black sesame butter and chocolate fills the kitchen, is simply enchanting.

The combination of black sesame and chocolate might sound unconventional to some, but trust me, it’s a revelation. The deep, slightly bitter notes of roasted black sesame perfectly complement the robust, bittersweet richness of dark chocolate. This fusion creates a flavor profile that is complex, sophisticated, and incredibly addictive. The earthiness of the sesame grounds the sweetness of the chocolate, resulting in a perfectly balanced and intensely satisfying treat that will have you reaching for just one more.

Essential Ingredients for Your Perfect Black Sesame Butter Brownies

My journey with tahini-based brownies began over a year ago, yielding delicious results that, regrettably, I never shared. What a mistake that was! However, upon discovering this exquisite black sesame butter from Eden Foods, visions of tall stacks of sultry, dark brownies instantly filled my mind. I knew I had to perfect this recipe and share it with you.

The black sesame butter truly elevates these brownies, deepening the rich cacao not only in color but also in its complex flavor profile. The roasted sesame notes intertwine beautifully with the bittersweet chocolate, creating an intense, aromatic, and undeniably chocolatey experience. What’s even better is that this recipe relies on simple, wholesome, and accessible ingredients, most of which you likely already have in your pantry.

Here’s what you’ll need to create these extraordinary Black Sesame Butter Brownies:

  • Black Sesame Butter: The star ingredient, providing healthy fats, binding, and a unique earthy depth.
  • Unrefined coconut sugar: Offers a natural, caramel-like sweetness without the harshness of refined sugars.
  • Oat flour: A fantastic gluten-free alternative that contributes to a tender crumb.
  • Cacao powder: For that intense, pure dark chocolate flavor and rich color.
  • Baking powder: The leavening agent that gives these brownies a slight lift while maintaining their dense, fudgy texture.
  • Unsweetened almond milk: Adds necessary moisture and helps create a smooth batter.
  • Maple syrup: Used in the optional frosting for an extra layer of natural sweetness.

That’s truly it! Simple, wholesome ingredients coming together to create an unforgettable dessert.

Serving Suggestions & Storage Tips for Your Fudgy Brownies

These Black Sesame Butter Brownies are a perfect treat for any occasion, offering a rich and satisfying plant-based dessert experience. While they are utterly delicious at room temperature, there’s something truly magical about enjoying them warm, perhaps alongside a tall, frosty glass of unsweetened almond milk or a scoop of your favorite vegan vanilla ice cream.

The most challenging part of this entire recipe, in my opinion, is patiently waiting for them to cool down before slicing them into perfect squares! If you share my impatience, here’s a little trick: once baked, carefully lift the parchment paper (with the brownie block still on it) from the baking pan and transfer it to a wire cooling rack. This allows air to circulate underneath, helping the brownies cool down faster. For an even quicker cool-down, you can pop the entire block into the fridge for about 15-20 minutes. Just be sure they are mostly cool before attempting to frost or cut, as this will ensure clean, neat slices.

For an optional, yet highly recommended, extra layer of sweet black sesame deliciousness, I’ve included a simple 3-ingredient black sesame cacao frosting recipe. This creamy, oil-free frosting perfectly complements the rich brownies and adds a beautiful finish. Why hold back when you can enhance such a delightful treat?

Once cooled and cut, store any leftover brownies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days. For longer storage, these brownies freeze beautifully! Wrap individual squares tightly in plastic wrap, then place them in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 2-3 months. Thaw them at room temperature or gently warm them in the microwave for a quick indulgence.

Description

Decadent dark chocolate brownies with black sesame butter. Sweetened with unrefined coconut sugar and frosted with an oil-free black sesame cacao frosting.

Ingredients

Black Sesame Butter Brownies

  • 1/2 heaping cup Eden Foods Black Sesame Butter (or sub regular tahini)
  • 1 cup unrefined coconut sugar (use 3/4 cup if you like darker chocolate!)
  • 1 1/4 cup oat flour (or sub another gluten-free flour of choice with varied results)
  • 1/4 cup raw cacao powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk

Black Sesame Butter Frosting

  • 2 TBSP maple syrup
  • 2 TBSP raw cacao powder
  • 2 TBSP Eden Foods Black Sesame Butter (or sub regular tahini)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and meticulously line an 8×8 inch square baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on two sides for easy removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all the brownie ingredients. Using a sturdy fork or spatula, mix until the batter is thoroughly combined and smooth. The final batter should be thick and moist, not dry or crumbly. If your dough appears dry, gradually add 1-2 additional tablespoons of almond milk or black sesame butter, mixing well after each addition until the desired consistency is achieved.
  3. Spoon the rich brownie dough into your prepared parchment-lined pan. Using your hands (lightly moistened if necessary) or a spatula, gently press and smooth the dough into an even layer, ensuring it reaches all corners of the pan.
  4. Bake the brownies for 18-20 minutes. You’ll know they are ready when the edges begin to pull away slightly from the pan and the surface shows small splits and a slight browning. Avoid overbaking to maintain maximum fudginess.
  5. Carefully remove the brownies from the oven. Let them cool completely in the pan before attempting to frost or cut them. This cooling step is crucial for achieving clean slices and a perfect texture.
  6. While the brownies are cooling, prepare your optional Black Sesame Butter Frosting. In a small bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, raw cacao powder, and black sesame butter until you achieve a smooth, spreadable consistency.
  7. Once the brownies are fully cooled, spread a thin, even layer of the black sesame cacao frosting over the top. Use the parchment paper overhangs to lift the brownie block out of the pan, then slice them into 9-12 squares. Store any remaining brownies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5-7 days, or freeze them for longer-term enjoyment.
